I’m your host Hutch aka Oneselv MC and this my hip hop production blog. This space is for anyone interested in unravelling the essential components required to create your own your Hip Hop art. First Wednesday of each month is a new episode of the TMC Podcast, where I interview and connect with real hiphoppas and music industry experts to get their advice, knowledge, and insight into producing Hip Hop. Discussing both breakthroughs and pitfalls, these behind-the-scenes interviews reveal the many experiences of these guests and uncover what they wish they knew or learnt earlier. Four times a month we also release a new educational blog post covering an aspect of one of the four traditional elements of Hip Hop:

• Emceeing (Rapping / Slam Poetry / Spoken word)

• DJ-ing (Deejaying / Mixing / Scratching / Sampling)

• Breakdancing (B-Boying / Breaking)

• Graffiti (Graf / Tagging / Street Art / Stencil Art / Spray painting)

Whatever your craft, the aim of TMC is to expand your knowledge of the intricacies within each element. Technical topics covered will include performance, equipment, production, rehearsals, management, networking, promotion, budgeting, and legal frameworks to help you navigate your artistic journey (to name a few).

Discussion also includes showcasing upcoming live events, new releases, workshops, historical breakdowns, and understanding Hip Hop culture. So, if you are thinking about getting into Hip Hop or are an emerging artist… this space is for YOU. Don’t forget to check out our soundcloud for some our own featured tracks and some of our favourite mixes from various sub-genres stemming out from the roots of Hip Hop over the years. There is a forum here on the website to join the conversation, ask questions, comment, try networking, and request future topics. We also want to see and hear your own art! By now you are probably thinking, “Ok cool… I’m down, sounds interesting… but yo… what’s with the name TMC?” Well, I’m glad you asked… Tangled My Chords is a ‘play-on-words’ (wordplay / pun) for ‘Tangled mic cords’, a common on-stage dilemma for the new stage performer or venue that doesn’t have fancy cordless microphones. I actually found this out the ‘hard way’ by jumping around on stage to perform for the first time with friends back in the day… Also, Originality is arguably the hardest and most valued trait among Hip Hop aspirants and even the greats, so I decided to change the word ‘cords’ to ‘chords’ to also illustrate the struggle of writing, composing, and performing your own music.

But probably the most important double entendre (just as our logo indicates) is the intertwining of discussion and collaboration with all of our guests including yourself.
