ABOUT ME & TMC

Oneselv MC (Member of the Chief Berra Rockerz)

Heyo! Thanks for checking out my blog, so here’s the scoop on me. My name is Oneselv MC, pronounced the same as ‘oneself’ but I replaced the ‘f’ with a ‘v’ on the end to embody the meaning of the word and signify my own individuality as a Hip Hop artist. I’m a bit of a reclusive artist that simply enjoys making hip hop with friends for fun. I was heavily inspired by 1990’s – 2000’s hip hop music growing up. These influences also led to many lifelong friendships and my love for hip hop made in Australia. I prefer not to say “Australian Hip Hop” as not to be confused with “Skip Hop” or Aussie/ Caucasian-only rap stereotypes.

I began making music in 2012 as a way to express myself and better orientate or relate to the world around me. I’ve been extremely fortunate to collaborate with several artists in my local scene. Previously, I also worked briefly at the Street University based in Canberra, ACT where I ran some short studio sessions teaching youth groups the basics of recording, mixing, and mastering their own music.

Tangled My Chords (TMC)

My idea to create TMC came from the struggles I had when I first began making hip hop music. I quickly noticed there were so many different methods and ideas to approach production, performance, and promotion. However, most access to proper equipment or knowledge was either unaffordable, coveted, or required a steep learning curve and significant time investment. I certainly don't believe it was more difficult than previous generations to create but today I look around and see better info and improved equipment I wish I had or knew about earlier.

There certainly were several sites out there you could go to dig for self-taught information, and gradually I learnt the basics and purchased some home studio equipment but the quality I was looking for was always elusive. So I decided to start a blog/ podcast to assemble an archive of my research into hip hop production, to share findings with others, and potentially collaborate with other artists for the kicks.
